Cactus and energy Production, a big business for the environment.

The first indications that the cactus comes from a large amount of Biogas were discovered by Contreras and Toha in the mid-1980s, researchers at the University of Chile. The solution delivered was to finance the first anaerobic reactor with the exclusive use of nopal for Biogas, in order to satisfy the energy needs in the drying of the carmine cochineal. The nopal has extraordinary characteristics for large-scale biomass production, it is a plant mainly from arid areas, however, it is possible to plant from southern Spain to Cape Town in South Africa.

Use of cactus biogas in vehicles

Those of us who are a few years old remember the movie Back to the Future when one of the protagonists places the remains of a banana and beer in his Delórean vehicle, as fuel, This is possible with cacti, at the next service station you can buy cactus leaves for your vehicle as fuel or grow them at home.

Today there are several fuels that are used for transportation, we have oil, gasoline, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas as the most traditional.

Nopal, wind and photovoltaic energy.

The energy of the cactus

It is generated by green plants that capture light energy from the sun and through a complex process called photosynthesis, transforms it into chemical energy, represented by organic molecules.

The eolic energy

It is obtained from the wind. It is a type of kinetic energy produced by the effect of air currents. We can convert this energy into electricity through an electric generator.

Photovoltaic Solar Energy

It corresponds to renewable energy that is created after the direct transformation of radiation and light from the sun into electricity. This transformation is possible thanks to devices called photovoltaic panels, which convert the solar radiation incident on the photovoltaic cells.

Alternative use of cactus (nopal), biogas, electricity, food and carbon credits.

Advantages of the cactus

Continuous generation of energy 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Production of biogas and electricity.

No sulfur oxides or particles.

Low maintenance.

General plant efficiency 80-90%.

Generates soil, organic fertilizers.

It changes the microclimate, which holds water in the soil.

Extracts carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Useful life 20 years. It allows the sale of carbon credits.

Totally organic process.

Rapid project implementation.

Generate permanent jobs to plant, harvest and process plants.

Biogas can have two origins that fulfill different functions.

Waste treatment In this case, the manure and organic waste from animal husbandry is recycled to obtain energy and reduce the costs of the process or for sanitary reasons of cleaning the floors. In farms where animals are raised, an excess of nitrogen is produced which saturates the soils contaminating groundwater

Biomass crops. In this case nopal, cactus is used, which allows to produce biomass in large volumes with a stable composition, without contaminants and is fully usable.
